South Florida Offshore Fishing Report — Current Conditions & Bite Update

If you're planning an offshore trip out of South Florida, here's everything you need to know about what's biting, where to find them, and what's working right now. The Bar Jacks team is on the water weekly — this is real intel, not guesswork.

Mahi-Mahi (Dolphin)

Mahi are showing strong along the temperature breaks in 150–400 feet of water. Look for floating debris, weedlines, and birds working the surface. Best depths: 200–350 ft. Top lures: Bar Jacks Mahi Striker lure, pink/white squid rigs, and chartreuse feathers. Early morning trolling along the weedline is producing double and triple hookups. Size ranging from schoolies to 15+ lb bulls.

Yellowfin Tuna

YFT are staging around deep structure in 600–1,000 ft. Chunking with sardines at dawn is most productive. Best depths: 600–1,000 ft. Top lures: Bar Jacks Tuna Striker multi-squid rig, cedar plugs, and black/purple skirted ballyhoo. Night fishing with lights continues to produce solid catches of 30–60 lb fish.

Wahoo

Wahoo are active along the deep edge — 350–600 ft at high-speed trolling passes. Wire leaders are essential. Best trolling speed: 8–12 knots. Top presentations: high-speed wahoo lures in blue/white and black/red, plus rigged ballyhoo with wire. Early morning and late afternoon windows are most productive.

Sailfish

Sailfish action has picked up along the reef edge in 80–120 ft. Live baiting with goggle-eyes and pilchards on spinning tackle is the go-to. Multiple flags being raised daily by boats slow-trolling the reef line south of Miami and out of the Keys.

Current Conditions

  • Water Temp: 82–84°F offshore
  • Visibility: 60–80 ft in blue water
  • Current: Moderate north-running Gulf Stream
  • Wind: SE 10–15 kts
  • Sea State: 2–3 ft — excellent offshore conditions
